News has been received that Private George W. Walker of the 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment, who recently went into the fighting line in France, is now in Manchester Hospital, wounded, he having been shot through the head. He is the son of Mr. W. Walker, of Boldon Colliery, and a native of Cotherstone, where he is well known as the nephew of Mrs. T. Clarkson and of Mrs. Graham and a nephew also of Mrs. W. R. Plews, Ferryhill.
