Harry was the oldest son of Charles Ewbank and Alice Raine, both born in Barnard Castle. Harry's father was a plumber and ironmonger. Harry had four brothers and sisters: Lottie Thompson; Bertha; Olive; and Charles William (who also served in the War - see separate entry in the database). The children were also born in Barnard Castle.
On the Barnard Castle Methodist Church Organ Panel, Harry appears on the list of those who survived the War.
Harry was captured during the War and held as a Prisoner of War, for which received the Military Cross. It was presented to him by George V. The family have a photograph for Harry outside Buckingham Palace on the occasion of the presentation. The photograph will be added to database in due course.
