'In the “Gazette” issued by the War Office on July 27th, the name of Mr Alfred Philip? Hanby Holmes, second son of Mr. J. Hanby Holmes, The Grove, Barnard Castle appears as full lieutenant in the Royal Engineers.  Lieutenant Hanby Holmes, we understand went out a week ago with his regiment to join the Expeditionary Force in France.'
