Kate worked at the Red barns Hospital in Redcar. On June 4th, 1915 she wrote a letter from Kirkletham Hall expressing a need for counterpanes, as the hospital was running low on supplies. The letter was published in the Teesdale Mercury and resulted in a number of donations from members of the community.
