Brother of George William Croft, who served and was killed in action and Thomas Francis Croft and Stanley Septimus Croft, both of whom served and survived (see separate entries in the database). 

Parents: Tom Croft (born in Heslington, North Yorkshire in 1861; died November 1901) and Mary Croft (nee Abbott, born in 1863 in Hunmanby, Yorkshire).

Brothers and sisters: Tom (born 1878); Alice (born 1881 in Hunmanby); John Edward (born 1886 in Durham City); Ernest (born in 1889 in Startforth); George William (born 1891); Thomas Francis (born 1893 in Barnard Castle); Mary E (born 1897 in Barnard Castle); Stanley Septimus (born 1 June 1899 in Barnard Castle); Nancy E (born 1901 in Barnard Castle). 

According to information received from relatives, the family lived in Hunmanby, Durham City, Startforth and latterly at 4 Pearson Terrace, Barnard Castle.
