Teesdale Mercury 04.09.1918 Page 3: Column 5
Sergeant Harry James Cameron, killed in action, 18th July
His parents were William and Margaret Cameron, of Hora Hora Valley, Whangarei, New Zeland but originally from Holwick
The following family details are taken from the Role of Honour database entry for his brother Frederick Thomas Cameron, Auckland Infantry Battalion, then New Zealand Engineers. This entry includes an article on Frederick's funeral from the Teesdale Mercury of 18th October 1916. It can be inferred from the article that Harry James was one of (at least) four sons of William and Margaret, including Frank, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, and the aforementioned Frederick. It can also be inferred that Harry's uncles and aunts included Jeremiah Cameron, a Lead Miner and resident of Holwick, a Mr and Mrs John Lowes and a Mr and Mrs Ed Collinson. His cousins included Mr and Mrs W Lee and Mr and Mrs George Bell
According to the Teesdale Mercury article of 18th October 1916, William and Margaret Cameron emigrated to New Zealand from Holwick in around 1879 during a depression in the lead mining industry.
