Teesdale Mercury 13 OCTOBER 1915 – Page 5:

'Amongst our young men at present enjoying a few days' leave at home we have been pleased to notice Able-seaman George brown, second son of Mr and Mrs H Brown, of No. 3, Peel-terrace, who has had about three and a half years’ training in the navy.  He is looking remarkably well, and, as his designation implies, is now a full-blown seaman, well used to the life “on the ocean wave,” and may be relied upon to give a good account of himself, and to uphold the prestige of good old Barney when the time comes.'
