Had worked at the Teesdale Mercury,

Wounded in face (reported in Teesdale Mercury 12 Dec 1917)

Shot about the knee and subsequently taken prisoner at Haplincourt 24 march 1918 (reported in Teesdale Mercury 1 May 1918).  Detained at the Langensalza detention camp in Saxony where he was forced to work in a salt mine.

He had signed up on May 1917 joining the Highland Light Infantry, but was later transferred to the Royal (London) Fusiliers.
