Thomas was reported Missing after the 'Big Advance' on the 1st July on the Somme. Four months later, after no further news, it was announced that he was presumed to have been killed.

Private T Mulgrew killed in action
Son of Thomas and Janet Mulgrew of Thorngate.
Thomas had seen service in the Dardanelles and Egypt as well as France.
Included on the “List of former Scholars of this School (Barnard Castle National Boys' School) now serving with His Majesty's Forces.”
