Charles was the son of Henry & Elizabeth Mudd of Staindrop. His father was a forester & woodsman. In 1914 he and his brother Arthur were working on a cottage up at Raby Home Farm. Arthur was married to Cicely and they had a son Cecil Arthur who was Margaret Mudd’s father-in-law. For many years Clematis House in Staindrop was the family home.

Notes:

 In 1911 Charles was employed as a mason. Charles joined the 11th Durham Light Infantry in February 1916 & served in France & Flanders. He died of wounds received in action on Ist September, 1916 aged 21 & is buried at Abbeville Communal Cemetery.
