Eldest on of John and Margaret Graham, 7 Montalbo Terrace. His younger brother Peter, of the Northumberland Fusiliers, was reported missing in action in the same month that Austin died.
Austin was considered to be a very talented actor and singer, performing in many concerts in town.
He and his brother Tom were pioneers in the electrical trade, having installed an independent supply of electricity to Gainford Hall in 1903. They worked in Middlesbrough under the name 'Graham Brothers, Electrical Engineers'.
Austin left for foreign service in April 1915. He was promoted to temporary Major in the Princess of Wales' Own Yorkshire Regiment in 1916.
He was given a posthumous Honour in June 1918.
