The only son of Mr Joseph Henry and Mrs Mary Ann Chatt, of Startforth
Wife (Ida) lived at 11 Coronation Street, Barnard Castle
Enlisted into the Northumberland Fusiliers shortly after the outbreak of war, and went through the Gallipoli campaign, taking part in the Suvla Bay landing, but transferred to the 32nd Light Railway Operating Co. Royal Engineers in France later in the war. (Unit taken from CWGC)
Died as a locomotive driver when the engine he was driving ran off the line and into trees, and he was killed instantly. He did not suffer great pain. died at the hour the armistice came into operation.
