One of his letters home was published in the Teesdale Mercury on May 12th 1915, he describes how the Germans 'know they are beaten and are showing their hate by blowing to the ground every house they can'.
On 29th May 1918, it was reported that his widow Beatrice had been employed as a ticket collector at Barnard Castle Railway Station.
