Military historian Jeremy Banning will give a lecture on the Battle of Arras at the Lit & Phil in Newcastle on Thursday 7th September at 6.00 p.m. Tickets cost £5. The battle, which lasted from early April to mid-May in 1917, has been somewhat overshadowed by the Battle of the Somme in 1916 and the Third Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele) in 1917, although it was a very costly battle in terms of losses.
You can find more information about the speaker and his topic, as well as booking information, at www.litandphil.org.uk under What’s On. I notice that the Lit & Phil is offering free tours as part of the Heritage Open Day scheme. These will take place on Thursday 7th, Friday 8th and Saturday 9th September. If you’ve not been to the Lit & Phil building, it’s well worth a visit.
